Depression Support

Compassionate, structured care for low mood and loss of interest.

Depression is more than feeling sad. It can bring persistent low mood, tiredness, loss of interest and feelings of hopelessness. With the right support, recovery is very possible.

How therapy helps

  • Understanding what is maintaining low mood
  • Gradually rebuilding routine, energy and meaningful activity
  • Working with self-critical thoughts
  • Building resilience to prevent relapse

Working with your doctor

Therapy primarily focuses on counselling and coping strategies. Where clinically necessary, Dr. Swati will recommend a referral to a psychiatrist and can work alongside your doctor.

If you are in crisis or having thoughts of harming yourself, please contact Tele-MANAS on 14416 (free, 24x7) or go to your nearest emergency department.

Recognising depression

Depression can look different in different people. Some feel sad and tearful; others feel numb, irritable or exhausted. Common signs include losing interest in activities, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, feelings of guilt or worthlessness, and withdrawing from people. When these last for two weeks or more and affect daily life, it is worth seeking help.

Approaches used in therapy

Therapy for depression often includes behavioural activation (gently rebuilding meaningful activity), CBT for self-critical and hopeless thoughts, and mindfulness-based approaches that reduce rumination and help prevent relapse. Sessions are paced carefully, because energy and motivation may be low at the start.

Supporting someone with depression

Family members can help by listening without judgement, encouraging small activities, and supporting professional help. Family sessions can also be arranged to help relatives understand what their loved one is going through.

Recovery is possible

With the right support, most people recover from depression and many learn skills that strengthen their emotional health long after therapy ends. If you are unsure where to start, book an initial consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Can therapy help without medication?
For many people, yes. For some, combined treatment works best; Dr. Swati will advise referral when clinically appropriate.
