Getting Started with Midjourney

What Midjourney is and which plan you need

Learning objectives
  • Explain what Midjourney is known for
  • Choose a plan and understand Fast, Relax and Turbo time
  • Know the commercial-use rules

The artist’s choice

Midjourney is an independent AI lab whose image models are known for beautiful, artistic, high-quality images. You use it mainly through the website midjourney.com (it also works in Discord). Midjourney regularly releases new model versions; use the latest unless you need an older look.

Plans

PlanSuits
BasicLearning and occasional use (limited fast time)
StandardRegular use; unlimited Relax mode
Pro / MegaProfessionals: more fast time and Stealth (private) mode

There is usually no permanent free plan. Check midjourney.com for current prices.

Speed modes

  • Fast: uses your monthly fast hours.
  • Relax: slower, free of fast hours (on Standard and above).
  • Turbo: fastest, uses more fast time.
  • Draft mode (newer versions): quick, cheaper rough images for exploring.

Commercial use

Paid subscribers can generally use their images commercially, but larger companies (above a revenue threshold) need Pro or Mega. Images on lower plans are visible in the public gallery unless you use Stealth. Read the current terms.

Practical demonstration

Open midjourney.com, browse the Explore page and open 5 images you like. Read their prompts and note what words describe style, lighting and camera.

Practice task

Collect 10 images from Explore you admire and write down the style words in their prompts.
